Home birth in Portugal is not covered by the health insurance and you have to find licensed midwives yourself. A midwife offers continuity of care throughout pregnancy, birth and early postpartum. It is best to find a midwife in early pregnancy, since they can be booked later. Your midwife will write the medical report of your birth, which you will later need for registering the baby.
